During its May 19, 2026, meeting, the Beaumont City Council unanimously approved an ordinance ratifying a public health nuisance determination for a property plagued by standing stagnant sewer water. The property, located at 2355 Buchanan Street and owned by DZR Investments LLC and JMC Solutions LLC, was first cited by the city's environmental division on April 23. Mary Alexander with the Public Health Department informed the council that city staff conducted follow-up inspections on May 11, May 15, and May 18, but found no improvement to the wastewater violation. The approved ordinance orders the property owners to abate the nuisance within 10 days. If the owners fail to comply, the council's action authorizes the city to obtain a warrant or permission to enter the property, secure bids from plumbing contractors to resolve the sewer water issue, and initiate a civil lawsuit. The city would then seek a court judgment to place a lien on the property to recover the abatement costs. City legal staff noted that while most municipal nuisance declarations in Beaumont relate to solid waste or overgrown vegetation, this enforcement action specifically targets a plumbing and wastewater failure that creates a public health danger. During the public hearing, staff confirmed that the property owner had recently made contact and claimed a plumbing company was scheduled to evaluate the site. If the owner's private plumber initiates the necessary repairs within the 10-day compliance window, the city will halt its planned municipal abatement and legal actions.
