The Akron City Council unanimously approved a three-year contract with Lindy Incorporated to supply liquid oxygen to the city's wastewater treatment plant during its June 15 meeting. Passed as an emergency measure without the formality of public bidding, the agreement authorizes the Director of Public Service to secure the necessary chemical supply for the facility. According to the legislative text read during the meeting, the liquid oxygen will be utilized specifically to increase the dissolved oxygen concentrate of the plant's effluent. Councilman Kammer requested a suspension of the standard rules to expedite the ordinance, noting that the committee had returned a favorable report. The measure subsequently passed with a 13-0 vote. In separate water-related matters during the public comment period, a local resident raised concerns regarding severe erosion and a sewer drainage issue on Sandhurst Road. The homeowner reported that a large municipal drain pipe located in a ravine behind the property is causing significant erosion, prompting site visits from city personnel following recent storms. Council leadership directed the resident to coordinate with Director of Public Service Chris Luttle to determine jurisdictional responsibility between the city, Fairlawn, and the Summit County Park System to address the drainage infrastructure.
