Kurilla Contracting Company secured the $574,874 contract for the 2026 Watermain Improvements project.

The project includes replacing 1,950 feet of deteriorated watermain pipe and valves across two primary locations.

Construction will predominantly utilize horizontal directional drilling to minimize surface disruption.

The council also approved a $681,413 purchase of a jetting hydro excavator truck for emergency pipeline repairs.

The Edina City Council has unanimously approved a $574,874 contract with Kurilla Contracting Company for the city's 2026 Watermain Improvements project. Approved as part of the July 21 consent agenda, the project targets aging infrastructure that has been prone to frequent breaks and operational challenges. The contract covers the installation of 1,950 feet of new watermain pipe and valves at two key locations: a crossing under Nine Mile Creek at 5901 Lincoln Drive, and a residential alignment spanning Long Brake Trail, Delaney Boulevard, Coventry Way, and Shannon Circle in the Dewey Hill neighborhood. To minimize surface disruption, the majority of the pipeline installation will be executed using horizontal directional drilling. Traditional open-cut excavation will be limited primarily to the final restoration of pavement and turf. The project is financed entirely through Edina's water utility fund and is a designated component of the city's 2025-2030 Capital Improvement Plan. Following the warranty period, the Edina Public Works Department will assume ongoing maintenance of the newly installed infrastructure. In the same meeting, the council also authorized a $681,413 purchase of a new jetting hydro excavator truck from Flexible Pipe And Tool Company. The vehicle will be utilized by the utilities division to support emergency water main break responses, sewer jetting, and everyday operations. Additionally, the city awarded a $34,846 contract to Apex Engineering Group for an odor and corrosion control study at Sanitary Lift Station #6 to address hydrogen sulfide emissions.
