Wichita approves stormwater improvements and water distribution contractsThe Wichita City Council has greenlit a series of contracts and preliminary estimates for stormwater upgrades, wet well maintenance, and water distribution expansions to serve new local developments.

A $144,450 contract was awarded to SoCan Excavating for the Dodge Street Stormwater Improvements.

The council approved a $102,975 change order with Mountainland Supply Company for angle ball valves and brass curb stop ball valves.

Preliminary estimates were received and filed for water, sewer, and stormwater improvements at the First Furlong and Bridger at Central additions.

The Wichita City Council unanimously approved several water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure items during its August 11, 2026, meeting, advancing both routine maintenance and new development projects. As part of the Board of Bids and Contracts report presented by Chris Hazlett of the Department of Finance, the council awarded a $144,450 contract to SoCan Excavating for the Dodge Street Stormwater Improvements. Additionally, Bolt Environmental and Industrial Services LLC secured a $17,443 contract for preventive maintenance cleaning of wet well pits. The council also approved an amended contract amount of $102,975 for Mountainland Supply Company, which is supplying the city with angle ball valves and brass curb stop ball valves for the water system. The bids were approved 7-0 without debate. In separate action via the consent agenda, the council received and filed preliminary estimates for several new infrastructure extensions. These include water and sewer improvements to serve the First Furlong Addition in District II, as well as water, sewer, and stormwater (SWD #528) improvements for the Bridger at Central Addition in District V. The consent agenda items were approved unanimously.
