During the June 18, 2026, Board of County Commissioners meeting, Johnson County advanced a series of regional municipal partnerships focused on stormwater infrastructure and flood control. Chairman Mike Kelly formally entered three inter-city agreements into the official record, signaling continued investment in the region's localized drainage and water monitoring networks. The first agreement is a partnership with the City of Lenexa for a stormwater system renewal initiative known as the 87th and Bluejacket project. The county also finalized an agreement with the City of Overland Park regarding flood management. This specific pact covers the management of a flood warning alert gauging system, which provides critical monitoring capabilities for local waterways and drainage basins. A third agreement was executed with the City of DeSoto to advance a stormwater management project located on 89th Street, east of Kill Creek Road. These agreements were signed and recorded as administrative actions without further board debate, serving as formal approvals for ongoing collaborative water infrastructure efforts across the county's municipalities. Separately during the meeting, county officials noted that the City of Olathe recently completed a water line repair project along Cherry Street near the county courthouse. The municipality leveraged the utility excavation work to simultaneously construct new accessible parking infrastructure in the downtown area.
