City Council approved a $1,122,619 contract for detailed design, permitting, and construction phase services for high service pump electrical upgrades.

The upgrades will include the installation of Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) to maintain city water pressure and facility renovations to accommodate operational staff.

Two additional contracts totaling over $103,000 were awarded for regulatory compliance and mechanical integrity testing of the plant's Class I injection well.

The City of Plantation, Florida, is moving forward with significant upgrades and regulatory compliance measures at its Central Water Treatment Plant (CWTP), awarding over $1.2 million in professional engineering services to Hazen and Sawyer, P.C. The largest of the approvals is a $1,122,619 contract for the CWTP High Service Pump Electrical Upgrades project. The scope of work includes detailed design, permitting, bidding, and construction administration services. The project is designed to rehabilitate the high service pump station and introduce Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) to help maintain the city's water pressure. In addition to the electrical upgrades, the build-out project includes renovations to the existing administrative building to correct space inadequacies for the utility's approximately 50 field services staff. The renovations will provide a new break room, training room, and locker room facilities. Funding for the build-out is drawn from the city's Water and Wastewater Capacity Funds. The project is expected to be bid in 2027, with construction potentially commencing in the second quarter of that year. The City Council also approved two separate work authorizations for Hazen and Sawyer related to the CWTP's Class I injection well, which is used for the disposal of plant effluent. A $52,559 contract was awarded to prepare a new operating permit application for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP). The current Underground Injection Control (UIC) operating permit expires in October 2026, requiring a renewal application to be submitted by August 2026. Furthermore, a $50,839 contract was approved for Mechanical Integrity Testing (MIT) services for the injection well. Under FDEP regulations, the city must demonstrate the mechanical integrity of the well at least once every five years. The consultant will develop a testing program, assist with the procurement of a well drilling contractor, and prepare the final MIT report for state regulators prior to the February 2027 deadline.
