During its August 25, 2026 meeting, the Pasco County Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution signaling its formal intent to acquire the consolidated water and wastewater utility system from the Florida Governmental Utility Authority (FGUA). Josh Wood, representing the county's Public Infrastructure, Fiscal and Business Administration division, presented the item, confirming that the notice of intent serves to officially notify the FGUA board of Pasco County's plans to take over the consolidated system. The decision aligns with the county's broader strategy to assume control over struggling private water utilities. During the discussion, the board chairman noted that Pasco County initially joined the FGUA specifically to address "troubled private water systems." He pointed to recent, ongoing issues at Hudson Water Works as an example of these operational challenges, suggesting that the situation provides additional justification for the county's acquisition and consolidation efforts.
