The board unanimously approved Resolution 2026-402, implementing a 2.0% rate increase for water and a 1.75% increase for sewerage, effective October 1, 2026.

The adjustments are projected to boost water, sewerage, and connection fee revenues by roughly $1.5 million in FY2027, while electric and natural gas rates will remain flat.

Under the newly adopted FY2027 budget, the water system projects $45.4 million in total revenues, while the wastewater system projects $60.3 million.

The board also advanced regulatory compliance by adopting FDEP-mandated updates to its Industrial Pretreatment Program (IPP) to protect wastewater infrastructure from toxic discharges.

The Gainesville Regional Utilities (GRU) Authority Board unanimously approved rate increases for its water and wastewater systems for fiscal year 2027 during its June 10, 2026, meeting. The adopted resolution implements a 2.0% rate increase for water and a 1.75% increase for sewerage. The adjusted rates and connection fees are projected to generate approximately $1.5 million in additional revenue for the utility in FY2027. The new charges will apply to all monthly bills rendered after October 1, 2026. Conversely, the board noted that electric and natural gas rates will remain unchanged from the FY2026 structure. The rate adjustments were passed alongside the broader FY2027 operating budget. Under the newly adopted budget, the GRU water system is projected to see $45.4 million in total revenues against $24.3 million in operation and maintenance expenses. The wastewater system is projected to generate $60.3 million in revenues against $26.2 million in O&M expenses. During the meeting, the board conducted a procedural re-vote on the rate resolution following public comment to ensure transparency, as a specific exhibit detailing the rates had inadvertently been omitted from the public-facing document stack prior to the meeting. The resolution was read by title and unanimously re-approved. In a separate but significant regulatory move, the board also unanimously approved updates to the utility's Industrial Pretreatment Program (IPP) regulations. The revisions were directed by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) to align with current state requirements. The federally mandated IPP regulates industrial discharges into the public sewer system to protect GRU's wastewater treatment facilities from interference, pollutant pass-through, and infrastructure damage. The updated framework introduces revised prohibited discharge standards and updated local limits for specific pollutants, while authorizing the utility's chief executive officer to execute necessary enforcement actions and issue wastewater discharge permits.
