The North RO plant is currently in design to expand its capacity from 12 MGD to 18 MGD.

The expansion project will include a new 12-million-gallon ground storage tank.

Engineering design is also underway for a new North Water Reclamation Facility on the same site.

The City of Cape Coral, Florida, is laying the groundwork for a major expansion of its North Reverse Osmosis (RO) Facility, approving a $2.31 million contract on September 2 for a perimeter security and sound attenuation wall. The contract, awarded to Coastal Concrete Products, LLC, covers the construction of a 6,450-linear-foot prefabricated concrete wall around the North Cape Government Complex. The award includes a $2.1 million base contract and a 10% city-controlled contingency, bringing the total authorized amount to $2,310,445.50. Utilities Director Jeff Pearson told the City Council that the wall is a necessary precursor to large-scale construction at the site. The city is currently in the design phase to expand the North RO plant's permitted capacity from 12 million gallons per day (MGD) to 18 MGD. As part of that expansion, the city will construct an additional 12-million-gallon ground storage tank. In addition to the potable water upgrades, Pearson confirmed that engineering design is underway for the new North Water Reclamation Facility, a wastewater plant which will be co-located on the site. The perimeter wall, originally mandated in a 2006 planned development project, will screen the facility during an estimated four to five years of upcoming construction activities. It will also provide essential sound attenuation for neighboring residential areas when the plant operates emergency generators during hurricane-induced power outages.
