The Lake Worth Lagoon Initiative grant will provide $749,000, requiring a 50% local match from the city.

Utilities Director Poonam Kalkat and Grants Division Director Mirna Crompton confirmed the grant application ranked fourth overall in Palm Beach County presentations.

The Commission also approved a $259,157 contract to Cobra Environmental, Inc. for a separate stormwater CIPP lining project.

The City of Boynton Beach, Florida, is moving forward with a $7 million infrastructure rehabilitation project aimed at overhauling aging water and wastewater systems in the Sea Meadow South community. During the August 25, 2026, City Commission meeting, officials unanimously approved a resolution ratifying the city's application for a $749,000 grant from the Lake Worth Lagoon Initiative to support the project. The Sea Meadow South community, which comprises approximately 240 mobile homes, has historically experienced residential sewer backups and water main breaks due to deteriorating infrastructure. To address these chronic failures, the city's approved scope of work includes the rehabilitation of approximately 6,500 linear feet of existing sanitary sewer main using Cured-in-Place Pipelining (CIPP). Additionally, the project will replace roughly 9,500 linear feet of aging water main and install 27 new fire hydrants to improve regional fire protection. The project design is 100% complete. By eliminating sewer leaks and reducing groundwater infiltration, the upgrades are expected to reduce nutrient and pollutant loading into the Lake Worth Lagoon, aligning with the environmental goals of the 2021 Lake Worth Lagoon Master Plan. Grants Division Director Mirna Crompton reported to the Commission that the city's grant application performed exceptionally well during the selection process. "We submitted a presentation to Palm Beach County and we rated number four," Crompton stated. Utilities Director Poonam Kalkat praised the expedited turnaround of the grant application, noting the critical need for the funding to offset costs for the utility's ratepayers. The Lake Worth Lagoon Initiative grant requires a 50% local match, which will be drawn from the city's utility grant accounts. In a separate action during the meeting's consent agenda, the Commission also awarded a $259,157 contract to Cobra Environmental, Inc. for the Campanelli Blvd. and Gateway Blvd. Stormwater CIPP Project. That contract will fund the lining of several hundred linear feet of 12-inch to 48-inch stormwater pipes to minimize soil infiltration and prevent potential roadway depressions.
