The Mesa City Council approved key procurement contracts on August 17, 2026, aimed at securing essential maintenance and repair supplies for the city's water and wastewater infrastructure. Council members voted 5-0 to authorize a 15-month cooperative term contract for facility maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) supplies for the Water Resources Department. The agreement, sourced through a Sourcewell cooperative contract with Fastenal Company, Motion Industries, and Wesco, Inc., is capped at $200,000 annually. According to city staff, the supplies will support daily preventive maintenance and unexpected equipment failures at the city's treatment plants, protecting infrastructure and ensuring compliance with state and federal water quality standards. The MRO contract was briefly pulled from the consent agenda for public comment, where a resident voiced support for the measure, emphasizing the critical nature of water management in Arizona. Vice Mayor Scott Somers presided over the unanimous approval, as two council members were absent. In a related infrastructure move on the consent agenda, the council also advanced a dollar limit increase to a cooperative use term contract for industrial plumbing supplies. The amendment increases the annual limit with Ferguson Enterprises, Inc. from $100,000 to an amount not to exceed $400,000. This contract supplies the Water Resources and Facilities Management departments with critical components such as valves, pipe fittings, and fire hydrants for routine maintenance and emergency repairs within the city's water distribution system. Both the MRO and plumbing supply contracts include an annual increase allowance of up to 5% or the adjusted price index.
