Hunter Contracting Co. secured a $2.3 million contract to rehabilitate Basin A and the effluent station at the Central Wastewater Reclamation Facility.

MGC Contractors was awarded a $550,000 job order to install a new, larger vortex to resolve clogging in the collection system.

The vortex solution was designed by GHD Engineering, which is currently contracted for the 1.5 MGD expansion of the Central WRF.

The items were approved unanimously as part of the July 7 consent agenda.

The City of Buckeye, Arizona, is advancing critical upgrades to its wastewater treatment and collection infrastructure following the City Council's unanimous approval of nearly $2.9 million in contracts on July 7. Hunter Contracting Co. was awarded a construction contract not to exceed $2,324,796 for the rehabilitation of Basin A and the effluent station at the Central Wastewater Reclamation Facility (CWRF). According to city documents, the existing equipment has reached the end of its service life. The rehabilitation activities will include the installation of new mixing pumps, valves, sensors, sluice gates, and a replacement blower to ensure efficient and reliable service delivery. In a parallel effort to optimize wastewater flows before they reach the CWRF, the council approved a $550,000 delivery order with MGC Contractors, Inc. The contractor will construct and install a new, larger vortex at 7th Street and Beloat to resolve ongoing clogging issues in the collection system. The vortex solution was designed by GHD Engineering, the firm already under contract for the design of the Central WRF's 1.5 million-gallon-per-day (MGD) expansion. City staff noted that the new vortex is sized to handle both current and future influent sewage flows, which is expected to reduce operating expenses. Both contracts were approved without discussion as part of the council's consent agenda.
